Boteria Torner

Begins in 1739 when Simó Torner, a professional tonnelier, married Teresa Estalella, whose father also earned his living with this job. Therefore, Estalella’s workshop was continued and it turned to Torner’s saga, which, nowadays, still goes on in different fields.

Around 1950 Josep Torner i Jové (sixth generation) and his son Josep Torner i Martí, after working in different places, they start a new workshop in Vilafranca del Penedès (near Barcelona), which in 1998 it is moved in Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues, nowaday’s location. Augustí Torner Samper is the manager (eighth generation).

Our facilities are more than 9.300m2; 1800, from which, are pavilions.

The used oak has to be still outdoors, minimum within 24 months, so that the rain and the sun remove its impurities from the wood.

The nature acts in a way that the oak does get really dry. Periodically, the humidity of this wood, which is outdoors, is controlled until it reaches 15 and 18%, which are the degrees needed to start the barrel-making. Once the wood is prepared, the tonnelier begins to select it and shape it.
